Our 1st Wedding Anniversary

Wow! It’s been a year since we got married!
weddings

Time goes by so fast. One year ago, we never thought we’d be celebrating our first wedding anniversary in Knoxville. In fact, one year ago, we still were driving the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Lilia was still in grad school, we hadn’t been to Samoa yet, and Guacamole was still with us. It’s crazy how quickly life changes.

Life has been busy, but good. Last week was commencement here at UT, so Lilia was very busy with the UT commencement website. She photographed the graduates on Wed., Thurs., and Fri., and had a great time doing it. While taking pictures, she got to talk with some graduates’ parents who were very nice, and one particular couple ended up taking a photo of us after Lilia photographed them & their son:

Actually, the building in the background is where Lilia works & the photo is taken in the parking lot we park in every day. Mark has been very busy with work, but he’s really enjoying his job. Since he started working at UT, he’s gotten equipped with a bunch of new tech things. Most notably, he got an Android smartphone and a 17″ MacBook Pro. The smartphone we bought, but the MacBook Pro is issued by UT. He’s been having a lot of fun with both of those new items :)

Anyhow….

Our First Wedding Anniversary!!

We slept in (which means 8am) and made a delicious breakfast in our pajamas. Biscuits and gravy, hash browns, corn beef hash, coffee, and mimosas! Ooooh, it was soooo good.

After breakfast we got dressed and ready for the day. We headed out for about a 3 mile dog walk in a really nice (rich) neighborhood that goes down to the Tennessee river. Before we knew it, the dog leaped into the river for a swim! It was really, really hot out though, about 89 degrees, so it was a good thing he cooled off. We played fetch along the river for a while, and then headed back.

After the dog walk, we went home. We wanted to plant something on our anniversary; we thought that would be special and we could possibly make it a tradition. So we planted some sunflower seeds along the side of the house. The dog was so hot, and exhausted from swimming, that he lied underneath our patio chairs while we planted. It was pretty cute!

By then, we were HOT and SWEATY and just plain gross. The heat and the sun of the day were starting to fade, and it was looking pretty stormy out. We took the activities inside at that point. We took some freezing cold showers and just cooled off. Since we are self-proclaimed home-made card experts, and we hadn’t bought each other anniversary cards, we decided to make a collaborative home-made anniversary card to us & from us.

Our great friends Katie and Heath, and baby Blake, sent us an anniversary present this week. They sent us a deep dish Spinach pizza from Giordano’s!!! AAAH! How YUMMY! For those of you who don’t know, Giordano’s is our favorite Chicago pizza restaurant and it’s DELICIOUS! So they sent us a pizza for our anniversary, and that’s what we had for dinner on Saturday. While we were making our home-made card, we pre-heated the oven & baked the pizza pie! By the time we were done with our card, the pizza was PERFECT! We ate a ton of it!

All in all, we had a wonderful first wedding anniversary.

Fiesta a nuestro casa anoche!

Flu bug :(

We have the flu. Both of us. Lilia got sick on Sunday, Mark’s first day of work was Monday, Lilia was sent home on Tuesday, and Mark got sick on Wednesday. By today (Thursday) we’re both heavily dosed with Dayquil, we’ve used 2 boxes of Kleenex in 48 hours, just bought 3 more boxes of Kleenex, Lilia is leaking out every hole in her face, and Mark has the feverish-bobblehead-Dayquil-syndrome. We’re hoping we can make it through Friday, and then this weekend we will just do absolutely nothing but sleep, take echinacea, drink juice, and get well.

If you’re healthy right now, send some good, germ-free, healthy vibes down to Knoxville for us. Please! :)

Mark got a job at UT!!

This morning Mark went for an interview and he walked out of there with a job!! He will be an IT Technologist II in the department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Working for a University has been one of Mark’s top career goals, and so we are ecstatic about this position. We’ll have the same hours, work week, and weekends. And, one of the buildings that he will work in is right next to the building where Lilia works! Right now he has the official offer, and not too many details past that. We’ll post more info when we know more. For right now, we’re just so grateful and excited we can barely contain it.
Mark

UPDATE: Mark has received the official offering letter, and he has returned an official acceptance letter. His first day is April 26th, this coming Monday. EXCITING!!!

The Neville Bungalow

Well, we did it! We are finally completely unpacked, decorated, and cleaned. We’ve got two photo albums for everyone to check out.

One album is our last days in Madison, WI through our first day in Knoxville, TN. It shows our old apartment, saying goodbye to friends, cleaning nasty things, arriving in Knoxville, our empty house, unpacking, and a major haircut for Mark. View the album here.

The second album is pictures of our new home. It’s got views of the front of the house, the living room, the dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and office. We also have two more rooms, a spare bedroom and the master bedroom, but we didn’t take any pics because we wanted to leave some surprises :) View this album here.

We love the new place and we’re really settling in now that we aren’t living out of boxes. We have plenty of room, so come visit us!

Have a happy Easter!
