And then there was one… dog.

Well, undoubtedly life throws curve balls. And we’ve seen our fair share lately. But this one, neither of us was expecting.

Mark is allergic to Fungus.

Yeah, exactly. Curve ball. Mark is not allergic to cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters, or anything else with fur and four legs!

We took Fungus on Monday night. By Tuesday he had suspicious looking “bites” on his arms and legs. We checked and made sure Fungus had gotten Advantix or Frontline recently, and he got his dose within the past 2 weeks. On Wednesday, we could tell that it was not any sort of insect bites, but hives instead. Thursday, the hive patches on his arms and legs had increased in size, pain, and itchiness. Friday morning, this morning, the hives have now grown large enough to join together and become a large, red, raised, giant hive rash–AND they have spread to completely cover his chest. We called Austin first thing this morning and let him know that we just can’t do it; we can’t take on Fungus. So sadly, we’re giving Fungus back to Austin this evening after work. :(

And then there was just one dog left… the Big Sky Montana.

Meet Fungus

Well, to make a long story short — we now have two dogs.

Meet Fungus, a 2 and half year old, 85 lbs. boxer mix:

Our friends here in Knoxville, Austin and Melissa, are moving in together and Melissa is deathly allergic to Fungus (literally, her lung capacity was down to 60%). They’ve been trying to figure solutions for them all to co-exist but her health takes priority and they just can’t have a dog. A re-homing effort was attempted with his family, but when that did not work out, we ended up taking on Fungus.

Given the recent robbery and our general desire to increase security measures around the house, we figured investing in another big dog was a smart choice. We’ve had him for less than 48 hours and things have been going fairly well; we’re planning on doggie training classes to keep the two of them manageable.

We’ll keep everyone updated on how things are going, and many many thanks to everyone that has been supportive of the decision to take on another dog.

Mark’s BDay & 4th of July

For Mark’s bday I fed him all sorts of delicious food and we had a little bday party at home. I made him biscuits & gravy & hashbrowns for breakfast, went and bought Cinnabons, took him to Jimmy John’s for lunch, got drinks at Crown and Goose, went out to dinner at a Thai food restaurant, and came home and opened presents and cards, and then had Baskin Robbins ice cream cake.

The next morning we woke up and went to the pub at 10am and caught the World Cup quarter-finals Germany vs. Argentina came. Man, was that a killing!

For the 4th of July we grilled up some delicious food, hung out in the backyard, and caught the fireworks at nighttime. Just about every house in our neighborhood starting setting off fireworks at around 8:30pm and it didn’t stop until well after 10pm.

All in all, a great birthday and holiday celebration!!

State Farm = Santa Clause

I just got off the phone with our latest State Farm claims agent less than 20 minutes ago and our check is going in the mail TODAY. We are so happy and relieved, it’s exhilarating. Now we can really start to move forward. We accepted the replacement service for our laptop and AppleTV, so those items were ordered this morning and should be arriving shortly. On all the other items we accepted the pay out, AND no depreciation on any of the jewelry. We’re so excited; we’re shopping online right now for our new TV! It’s like Xmas and State Farm is Santa Clause!! :) Except for in this analogy the robbers are the mean Grinch and they obviously never have the revelation that the Whos in Who-Knoxville wanted their things back. Anyways….

DO THE HAPPY DANCE!!!

USA and England lose in World Cup 2nd round

Last weekend was a sad weekend for USA and England soccer fans.

USA and Ghana played on Saturday afternoon, 2:30pm EST. Us and our buddy Austin got our game faces on and went up to The Crown and Goose again to watch the game.

At the pub, all three of us got interviewed by the local TV station, WLVT, because we were a few hours early for the game to get the pre-game spirits flowing and completely decked out in with USA T-shirts, temporary tattoos on our face, and assorted facial/head garb.

We met some great people at the game, and had a great time. Well, I had a great time the whole time because I love Ghana and I love the USA. Any time there was a goal, I cheered. As for Mark and Austin, they only cheered for USA and were DEVASTATED when Ghana scored in the first three minutes of overtime.

All of us were ecstatic about Germany just tearing England to shreds on Sunday morning. That was an action-packed, totally awesome game. Argentina vs. Mexico game on Sunday afternoon was a good game too, it was just sad to see the Mexico team play dirty once Argentina got that offsides goal. Especially because England was denied a legitimate goal that morning. Bad refs have been through out this World Cup and you just gotta roll with the punches, not start playing dirty and just ruin the game for everyone.

Anyways, great games this past weekend.

WE CAN’T WAIT FOR THE GHANA GAME ON FRIDAY AND THE GERMANY GAME ON SATURDAY!!!!

Photos from USA vs. England World Cup 2010

Mark and I went with our friends Austin and Melissa to an English pub in Knoxville called The Crown and Goose to watch the USA v. England World Cup match. It was a GREAT game and we had a GREAT time. I know that USA and England played on June 12th, almost 2 weeks ago, but I just found these pics on my camera and I thought I would post them. They’re pretty blurry because it was really packed in there and everyone was loud and cheering. But you get the idea.

We’re most definitely looking forward to the USA vs. Ghana World Cup game this Saturday (6/26). It should be a great game. When USA and Ghana played each other in the 2006 World Cup, I had just arrived in Accra, Ghana for my study abroad trip. When Ghana defeated the USA, oh wow–it was pretty amazing to be in Ghana that day. So I have high hopes for a great game this Saturday and I will be happy with any outcome as long as both teams play great. Which they undoubtedly will.

Worst Friday Ever

Last Friday (6/18), we got robbed. Someone or some people broke in to our house and stole over $3,000 worth of electronics and jewelry. We are taking all the appropriate steps to find our stolen goods, the person/people that stole them, and to implement higher security measures around the house.

Rest assured that everyone (us, dog, cat) are okay and did not get hurt. More later on.

World Cup off to great start

The World Cup started today in South Africa and let me tell you now, us Nevilles down here in Knoxville have the friggin’ WORLD CUP FEVER!!!

The opening ceremony was absolutely phenomenal. We both had goosebumps. And we’ve both been at work all day, streaming the ceremony & first match on our computers. But yes, the opening ceremony was just breathtaking and inspiring. We were both watching on ESPN 360 (shout out to them for streaming it) and the audio was crap for most of it, but it was still amazing. One of Miriam Makeba’s songs from Pata Pata was sang by a woman during the opening ceremony. The audio wasn’t plugged in at that point so I don’t know who sang or what song, but I was barely able to make out that it was a Makeba song from Pata Pata. R Kelly was there and he sang too. Other rappers sang and more classically trained singers performed as well. The dancers were just WONDERFUL too. It was better than any Olympic opening ceremony I’ve ever seen.

Can you tell we have the fever?

Some screenshots of the opening ceremony:

And then, the first match. South Africa versus Mexico. Supposedly the best team Mexico has ever put forth for the World Cup. And South Africa is the lowest seeded nation to ever host the World Cup. Predicted to be a Mexico victory. Mexico, by far, dominated the first half. Announcers speculated South Africa was specifically instructed not to let the excitement of the stadium overwhelm them. Who knows, its just conjecture (as far as I know). Second half begins, South Africa gets a goal. CHANGES THE WHOLE MOMENTUM OF THE GAME. RSA just freakin’ brought the HEAT after that. And Mexico definitely answered with their own heat. Mexico scored a goal in the second half as well. The game ended in a tie. There was a Mexico goal in the first half (I think it was the first half) that did not count because a ref called it offsides. Die-hard Mexico fans will claim that this was a bullshit call, but really… c’mon. That’s all part of the game. Anytime your fav team gets a bad call, someone is gonna call it bullshit. Anyways, it didn’t count and the first game of the World Cup, in my opinion, went really well. It wasn’t a 0-0 game, it wasn’t a killing, both teams got on the board, Mexico has nothing to be ashamed of because they dominated the majority of the game, and South Africa has nothing to be ashamed of because they are hosting, they got the first goal of the 2010 World Cup, and they didn’t lose. All in all, off to a great start.

Can you tell we have the fever now?

Uruguay & France are coming on in about 30 minutes. We are going to the bars tomorrow with friends and getting ROWDY for the US v. Brits game. It’s gonna be INTENSE!!!

Blues Traveler at Sundown

This past Thursday night Blues Traveler played at Sundown in the City and it was awesome. So many people showed up for the event you could barely move. It took a long time, but we made it up to our favorite pub and caught some great tunes. The band was great, they played some of their classics and they even covered Sublime and Radiohead. Awesome night!!

Here’s a few pics from my cell phone:
