Atlanta Saturday

This past Saturday morning my cousin Jesse texted me and invited us to party in Atlanta. We didn’t have any plans for the evening so we hopped in the SUV at about 4pm and headed to Atlanta.

We surprised our other cousin Cole, Jesse’s brother, when we arrived at his gig at a really, really nice pizza joint in Atlanta. Coleman is an amazing musician; we were totally blown away. We also got to briefly see our Aunt Eileen and Uncle Rick, Jesse and Cole’s folks, at the pizza spot. It was great to have an impromptu weekend getaway and see family. We haven’t seen these guys since July 2007, so it has been a WHILE! But that didn’t stop us from picking up right where we left off, and having a great time with them. We woke up pretty early Sunday and got back to Knoxville at noon. The trip was a huge success.

Birthday Flowers and Bed

It’s that time of year again, and you know what that means? It’s my birthday! YAY!

Mark bought me beautiful flowers (like he always does, love ya!) and we finally GOT OUR NEW BED!!!! Oooooh, it’s wonderful! It’s a queen size mattress with side sleeper coils, a 4 inch pillowtop, and was made with natural materials. We’ve been looking around for a while, and this is the best bed we saw by far. And then, once we bought the bed and while we were waiting for it to be delivered, we went and got a new bed set. We have a really nice thick bed set that we got for Christmas last year, but we needed something a bit lighter for the end of summer and start of fall.

Volunteer Princess Brunch Cruise and other adventures

The Volunteer Princess is a luxury yacht that does cruises on the Tennessee River in the downtown Knoxville area. My mom has been in town for the last week, on her way to Georgia for a conference, and last Sunday we went on the Volunteer Princess Brunch Cruise. It was wonderful! We had a great time, the food was delicious, the boat was beautiful, and the sights along the river were very nice. It’s something that Mark and I definitely want to do again.

My mom has done a lot of other really neat stuff while she’s been here. We went to Bangkok Tokyo, a Thai and Japanese restaurant, and that was great! Every single thing we ordered was amazing. We went to Volunteer Landing, an area along the river front, and walked along the river with the dog. We also went to Calhoun’s on the River for dinner and that was really neat. There is a boat dock for folks to pull up on their boat and catch a bite to eat! It also has a really neat outside deck and eating area.

Just by chance we caught the Eastern Tennessee History Fair at Market Square; there was an outdoor theatre with a skit about the women’s suffrage movement, and we watched a blacksmith forge a tool (which was REALLY COOL). Then, while we were at work, Mom has also been to the National Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, World’s Fair Park and the Sunsphere, and to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I took the day off today and later on we’re going to go to the Knoxville Museum of Art; I’m quite excited.

I’ve had a great time while she’s been here, and I’m amazed at the amount of sights and activities she was able to go see. Very busy and but really fun vacation!

New TV and Playstation 3

Whoopee! This past weekend we used our settlement check from State Farm and replaced our flatscreen TV and Playstation 3.

The TV is the same size, but the specs are much better. It’s 1080p, 120Hz, and LED-LCD. Check it out:

And we also got a new Playstation 3, which means that it’s the “slim” version. ooooooh, it’s so good lookin! We bought the new Alice in Wonderland on Blu-ray when we got the new PS3 so we could test out our new TV. Oh man, it was so amazing, we were acting like we’d never seen HD before!

We are quite happy with our new electronics and it really, really takes away the sting of the robbery. All is well.

Our first Knoxville Show

Two days ago, on Tuesday night, we went to our first concert here in Knoxville. We went and saw Widespread Panic. Panic is a southern rock band, and they are one of our most fav bands to go see. We always have an awesome time and this last time was no exception.

There wasn’t any flash photography allowed, but I did get just a few pics on my phone:

One more thing…. I added a few more pics to the Susan & Derek post. Their friend Taylor sent me some more and then I found some on my phone that I had forgotten about. I must admit we got quite rowdy that weekend and not all the pics made it to the website because of their level of rowdiness.

New MacBook Pro

After sending our replacement laptop to Wisconsin, State Farm got it re-routed to Knoxville and we got our new laptop last week.

It’s a brand new 13″ MacBook Pro and we are so happy with it! It’s actually a much better laptop than the one that got stolen, so it’s really quite exciting. We also got our replacement AppleTV (that, as well, was originally sent to Wisconsin) last week. We can’t hook that up yet because our little 19″ TV is too old and doesn’t have the right hook-ups. BUT, we should be replacing our TV and PS3 within the next week or two, so the AppleTV will work when we get our new TV.

And… Mark bought me really pretty flowers last Thursday, so I took a picture:

2010 Weekend with Susan & Derek

A week and a half ago we drove to Thomasville, GA to visit our friends Susan and Derek. Around the same time a year ago, we visited them in Casey, IL, but this past spring they moved to Thomasville. Mark had never been to Georgia, we hadn’t seen Susan and Derek in a year, and we hadn’t been a road trip since we moved to Knoxville, so we had a lot of reasons to be excited about this trip.

We had a GREAT time!! We got to catch up, grill food, have some drinks, visit with their friend Taylor, watch the dogs play, watch TV, have a ’90s moves dance party, and all sorts of other fun and ridiculous things. While we were there, we went and saw Thomasville’s Big Oak tree, a really cool local attraction, and got our picture taken in the pouring rain. This oak tree has been there since 1680!! It’s almost 400 years old and the circumference is about 10 people holding hands. It’s HUGE and BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks to Susan, Derek, and Taylor for showing us such a FUN time! Can’t wait to do it again!
